Great experience exploring the Japanese technique of Raku firing.
This week, we used our raku kiln to fire pieces we had created.
Raku firing is a unique ceramic technique that involves quickly heating pottery, removing it from the kiln while it is still red hot, and then placing it in a container of combustible materials like sawdust or newspaper. This process, also known as post-firing reduction, creates a distinct blackened or crazed effect on the clay and glaze, resulting in unique and unpredictable finishes
