- Black Birds
My black birds have been a major part of my pottery, paid my poly tech fees, bought my first wheel and kiln paid the power bill all from sales of these. They are burnished and terrasigullat then bisqued and saw dust fired. They are always the way I test clay and the first lesson in classes I teach.

Great experience exploring the Japanese technique of Raku firing.
This week, we used our raku kiln to fire pieces we had created.
Raku firing is a unique ceramic technique that involves quickly heating pottery, removing it from the kiln while it is still red hot, and then placing it in a container of combustible materials like sawdust or newspaper. This process, also known as post-firing reduction, creates a distinct blackened or crazed effect on the clay and glaze, resulting in unique and unpredictable finishes
